Workforce Housing Homes Under Construction

Opportunity Florida and Three Rivers Housing Foundation announced today that their Workforce Housing program has been moving along successfully.  A large number of applications from home buyers have been received and several local buyers are well on their way to home ownership.  The program is directed at the eight-county area served by Opportunity Florida, Calhoun, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Liberty and Washington.

Currently, two homes are under construction and six buyers are meeting with the builders and picking out plans.  This is a great return on the number of applications received.

“We are extremely pleased with the response so far and are eagerly awaiting the completion of our first house in hopes that it will create more interest in the communities,” said Gary Clark, Opportunity Florida Board Chairman.

The program’s goal is to connect residents in the eight county region to new programs for affordable and workforce housing.  The home ownership programs originate with many governmental agencies, such as USDA Rural Development, the Florida Housing Finance Corporation and the Federal Home Loan Bank

of Atlanta.  Qualified buyers will be able to receive substantial down payment grants as well as closing cost assistance and a mortgage interest rate subsidy.   The potential buyers are required to participate in a home ownership education program.  The homes will be built to meet energy efficiency standards and will also include a full amenity and convenience package.    They will be built by local builders and contractors.

Residents of the eight counties interested in the program can access additional information and download applications at www.opportunityflorida.com or contact the Opportunity Florida office at 850-718-0453.  Applications can also be downloaded at any of the county libraries.
